It might not be an official holiday, but everyone from coast to coast has February 9, 2025 circled on their calendars. It’s Super Bowl LIX at the Superdome in New Orleans, and if it’s anything like last year’s game, over 10 million Canadians will be watching on television. Add those fancy new streaming platforms to the mix, and we just might be looking at some new Super Bowl betting records here at Bodog Sportsbook.
Maybe the Buffalo Bills can help us out. They’re one of Canada’s favourite NFL teams, especially in Ontario, and the Bills will have even more fans across the border after former Toronto Raptors teammates Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady joined former Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore as part-owners this past December.
Or maybe the Detroit Lions will boost those NFL betting numbers from across the border with a deep playoff run. Will they end up facing the Bills at Super Bowl LIX? We’re already down to eight teams in the 2024-25 NFL playoffs; the Lions host the Washington Commanders this Saturday for their Divisional Round matchup, then the Bills welcome the Baltimore Ravens to Orchard Park on Sunday.
As Canada’s No. 1 online sportsbook, we can’t get too caught up cheering for one side or the other here at Bodog Sportsbook – we’re impartial observers. But we’re Canadians, too, and we love our NFL football around here, so let’s give Buffalo and Detroit the spotlight for our 2025 Super Bowl predictions, and see how they stack up against the other teams still in the hunt.
There have been various times this season when either the Bills (14-4 SU, 11-7 ATS) or Lions (15-2 SU, 11-5 ATS) have looked like the best team in the league. But Detroit ended up with the top seed in the NFC. At press time, they’re +300 co-favourites with Kansas City on Bodog’s Super Bowl odds board. Buffalo is the No. 5 favourite at +550.
The Bills had to settle for the second seed in the AFC behind 15-2 Kansas City, so they missed out on the bye week – although last Sunday’s 31-7 Wild Card win over the Denver Broncos (+7.5 away) wasn’t all that challenging. Buffalo will face a sterner test from the Ravens, who are 1-point road faves at Bodog and +450 to win Super Bowl LIX.
As for Detroit, they desperately needed that bye week to get healthy. Their defence has fallen apart as the season wore on and the injuries have mounted. The Lions are still comfortable 9-point home favourites over the Washington Commanders, but the Commanders are a serious Super Bowl dark horse at +2500 with the amazing Jayden Daniels (70.5 QBR, No. 4 overall) at quarterback.
So let’s say for now that Buffalo and Detroit both advance. Who might they face in the Conference Championships? For the Bills, it will be either the defending league champions from Kansas City, or the Houston Texans (+8 away), the biggest long shot on the Super Bowl LIX odds board at +4500. Anything can happen, of course, but pencil in KC from Saturday’s Divisional matchup.
Over in the NFC, the hypothetically victorious Lions will face the winner of Sunday’s tilt between the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are 6-point home faves at Bodog and another worthy Super Bowl candidate at +425, but the Rams (+1500) are compelling dark horses themselves after getting healthy during the second half of the regular season and winning the NFC West.
As you can see, there are already some tasty Super Bowl betting opportunities in the NFC with both LA and Washington, and since the Lions’ defence has been knocked down a peg, they’ll have to dig deep if they want to make it all the way to the Superdome. The Bills, meanwhile, face a Baltimore team that is still looking for playoff success under QB Lamar Jackson, then maybe a Kansas City team that needed a whole lot of friendly bounces to go 15-2 (8-9 ATS).
Maybe this will indeed be the year the Buffalo Bills finally win their first Super Bowl. Canadians of a certain age will have watched this team back in the 1990s on the cable TV broadcasts from Rochester, when the Bills lost four straight Super Bowls and made “Wide Right” a thing. Today, you can watch them on streaming and bet at Bodog at the same time using your smartphone. It feels like anything is possible now – even the Bills taking home the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Whichever teams and players you put in your Super Bowl picks, your chances of success will go up if you take a moment to think about what type of bet you want to place. The classic point spread is a familiar choice for Canadian bettors, but Super Bowl props have taken over the landscape in recent years – and there’s even more where that came from at Bodog Sportsbook.
Super Bowl point spreads were first posted in Las Vegas way back in 1967, when the Green Bay Packers (another NFL team with Canadian connections) beat Kansas City 35-10 as 14-point favourites. That means the Packers had to beat KC by more than 14 points to “cover” the spread and pay out their supporters – which they did.
If you prefer, you can bypass the spread and bet the Super Bowl moneylines at Bodog. This is when you pick one team or the other to win straight up (SU) instead of against the spread (ATS). And it can sometimes make the difference between a winning or losing bet; at Super Bowl LVI, the Rams downed the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 to cash in as –210 moneyline favourites at Bodog, but Cincy beat the spread as 4.5-point underdogs. Bettors could find themselves in a similar spot if the Lions face Buffalo as small favourites at Super Bowl LIX.
Then you’ve got those Super Bowl totals, where you bet on whether the two teams will combine to score Over or Under the posted number of points on Bodog’s NFL odds board. The over/under has become so popular over the years, it’s become the format for all those Super Bowl props that have taken Canada by storm.
Will Buffalo QB Josh Allen throw at least three TD passes at the Big Game? What about Detroit QB Jared Goff? These are the kind of bets you’ll find on the Super Bowl props list at Bodog Sportsbook. Bettors across Canada who got their feet wet playing Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) have flocked to these wagers on individual players; even if you’ve only dabbled in standard fantasy football, this bet type should be right up your alley.
The other reason Super Bowl props have gotten so big is that you’re not just betting on the Big Game – you also get all the other things that come with the football, like the opening Coin Toss, the National Anthem, the Halftime Show, the Super Bowl MVP Award, and the traditional Gatorade Shower for the winning head coach. You can even bet on Super Bowl ads, even if they don’t show all the high-profile ones in Canada. Pick your favourites from the hundreds of Super Bowl prop bets at Bodog, print out your checklist, and follow along with your friends while you’re watching the Big Game.
Thanks to the power of the internet, Bodog can bring you live Super Bowl betting with the tap of a button, giving you point spreads, moneylines, totals and props updated in real time as the Big Game rolls on.
But why stop there? With NFL live betting at Bodog, you can bet not just on the game itself, but on the outcome of each play as well. Will this be a passing attempt or a rush? Will there be a touchdown? As long as you’re quick enough, you can place your bets before the next snap and still have time to scarf down some of those tasty Super Bowl snacks. Visit Bodog’s odds page and hit that LIVE button at the top left to see what sports are available on any given day.
Brushing up on your NFL bet types will help you improve your win rate, but if you really want to get the most out of your betting experience, choosing the right sportsbook is paramount. Here’s why Canadian bettors have made Bodog Sportsbook their preferred destination for the Super Bowl:
Sports betting may be an international business now, but we’re especially proud of our Canadian roots here at Bodog. This company was launched in Canada way back in 1994; we have talented Canadians writing about all the sports that matter in the Great White North, and you get to play with Canadian funds (CAD) when you bet at Bodog.
Because you’ll have access to the full menu of Super Bowl point spreads, props and parlays here at Bodog Sportsbook, our bettors across Canada get to place wagers that you just won’t find at other online sportsbooks, which face restrictions on the kinds of bet types they can offer. And you’re bound to find some unique Super Bowl props on our NFL lines. We were among the first to add hundreds of these props to our comprehensive list for the Big Game.

So you’ve got all your ducks in a row: You know the different types of Super Bowl bets you can make, and the importance of choosing the right online sportsbook. To help you get even more value from your Super Bowl picks, here are some important NFL betting tips and strategies to keep in mind.
– Do your research: On top of the useful NFL betting articles we have for you here at Bodog, you should always have a browser tab or two dedicated to some reliable NFL league stats, both traditional (passing/rushing yards, touchdowns, interceptions) and advanced (EPA, QBR). Keep an eye as well on the newswires for the latest injury reports and updates; the more players there are coming in and out, the more volatile the NFL lines will be for that matchup, giving you the opportunity to take advantage with a sharp bet.
– Find the best odds: The lines you see on Bodog Sportsbook’s NFL odds board are always competitive with the rest of the betting market. But depending on which teams or players you’re betting on, you might find that Bodog gives you the highest possible return for your chosen wager, to go along with all those other advantages we’ve mentioned.
– Keep it simple: If this is your first go-around with sports betting, stick with the basic “straight” or “single” NFL bets (spreads, moneylines, totals) before moving on to the more exotic wagers like props and parlays. As you broaden your sports betting knowledge base, you can use your handicapping skills to find value in sweetheart teasers, round robins and other advanced bet types.
– Bet smaller amounts more frequently: As they say, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Even so-called professional bettors are more than happy if they can get 53-54% of their NFL spreads and totals right; that still means being wrong almost half the time, so protect yourself by making multiple smaller bets instead of risking large chunks of your bankroll on any one game – even the Big Game.
– Have fun: Like we said, entertainment should be your top priority when you bet at Bodog Sportsbook. Winning is fun too, but if you’re doing this to make money, be advised that there are much easier ways to make considerably larger amounts of cash without putting yours at risk. Bet on football because you enjoy it.
