EPL Betting: Can Anybody Stop Liverpool?

It’s all over but the shouting. As we go to press, Liverpool (22 wins, seven draws, two losses) are the runaway –8000 favourites at Bodog Sportsbook to win the 2024-25 English Premier League, 11 points clear of Arsenal with seven matches left for each club – including one last tilt against each other, at Anfield on May 11. It would take an epic collapse by the Reds to screw this up.

EPL BETTING

It could happen. The Gunners (17-11-3) are enjoying a strong campaign of their own, with just one loss since early November. If they can’t overtake Liverpool, there are still two more title contenders on the EPL futures board at Bodog:

– Liverpool: –8000
– Arsenal: +2500
– Nottingham Forest: +25000
– Newcastle United: +200000

Again, not much room for error here. Notts Forest (17-6-8) are 16 points behind Liverpool in third, also with seven matches still to play; fifth-place Newcastle (16-5-9) have a match in hand, but need 20 points just to tie – and neither club has the Reds on their remaining schedule.

At least we don’t have to worry about Manchester City (15-7-9) mounting their usual second-half surge to steal the championship. And there’s still plenty to play for this year, with all sorts of EPL betting opportunities waiting for you at Bodog. Here’s a closer look at how we got to this point and what you can expect down the stretch.

The 2024-25 Season Thus Far

The year began in typical fashion: Manchester City (–125) was favoured to win their fifth title in a row. Arsenal were second at +300 after finishing in the same spot last year. Liverpool were intriguing +800 third-favourites in their maiden voyage under new manager Arne Slot, replacing Jurgen Klopp – now the Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull GmbH.

It didn’t take long to shake up this snow globe. While injuries to Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne kept Man City in the bottom half of the table, Arsenal went undefeated through early October to become the new title favourites at +150. Then Liverpool pulled away from the pack by going nearly six months without tasting a league defeat. Even City’s customary spending spree at the January transfer window (around US$220 million) wasn’t enough to bridge the gap this time.

Salah Leads the Way

It seems not much has changed for Liverpool since Slot took over. They’re still not relying on the transfer window to boost their title hopes – and why would you when Mohammed Salah (27 goals, 17 assists) is still playing this well? Just like the Reds, Salah is a –8000 favourite at Bodog, this time to win his fourth career Golden Boot as the division’s top scorer.

Salah isn’t quite there yet. Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland (21 goals) has an outside chance to capture his third straight Golden Boot, but Haaland is Bodog’s third favourite at +5500 after hurting his left ankle this past Sunday in FA Cup action. That leaves room for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak (20 goals) to sneak into second place at +3000.

Liverpool’s star power doesn’t end with Salah, either. Alisson has been brilliant in net, allowing just 0.92 goals per match across all competitions with a 38.2% clean-sheet rate. The Reds’ defence is stout with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the midfield is in excellent shape with Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister. It’s enough to make you forget that Salah is joined up front by Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, who have combined for 21 goals of their own.

Key Moments for the Reds

It’s already been a season of milestones and new beginnings for Liverpool. The hiring of Slot on May 20 was critical; the former midfielder at FC Zwolle and elsewhere in the Eredivisie has quickly established himself as one of the greatest managers in soccer, and he’s about to reach the top of the mountain at the tender age of 46.

The retirements of both Thiago and Joel Matip on June 30 further paved the way for a new Reds regime. Their preseason tour of the US featured victories over Arsenal and Manchester United; Liverpool doubled up on United by blanking them 3-0 at Old Trafford on September 1, but it was their 2-0 home win over Manchester City on December 1 that really set the tone for 2024-25. Beating City by the same score on their own turf on February 23, after all that transfer window spending, was merely the icing on the cake.

Liverpool’s Closest Rivals

Manchester United have long been Liverpool’s most famous rival, but this program has seen better days. So have Manchester City, for that matter. At this point, Arsenal are the closest thing the Reds have to competition in the Premier League. The two clubs drew 2-2 on October 27; their rematch on May 11 could have title implications if things go sideways for Liverpool.

True soccer fans know the real No. 1 rivalry for the Reds. The Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton has been ongoing since 1894, with notable clashes at the 1984 Football League Cup final and the 1986 FA Cup final, both at Wembley Stadium. This year’s derby saw the two sides draw 2-2 at Goodison Park on February 12, then the Reds got the 1-0 win at Anfield on April 2.

Contract Signings Will Determine their Future

As dominant as this season has been for Liverpool, everything is up in the air for 2025-26. Or at least it was until the Reds broke the earth-shattering news that Salah had signed a new contract extension to remain on Merseyside beyond this current campaign. Van Dijk is making all the right noises about staying at Anfield, whereas Alexander-Arnold looks set to leave for Real Madrid. The Kop outfit are in for a summer of change.

There’s enough talent on this roster to remain competitive next year should all three depart, but adding someone like centre-back Dean Huijsen (currently with Bournemouth) would certainly help matters.

Now that you’re caught up with Liverpool, it’s time to hit the soccer odds board at Bodog Sportsbook, where Salah is the –1600 favourite at press time to win the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award for the third time in his storied career.
